Top Horses - Busan

These are the top horses in training at Busan Race Park as of June 2008, based on prize money won over the past year:

1. Ebony Storm - The rank outsider of a field of fourteen, in a torrential downpour in Seoul in mid-May, Ebony Storm went from outsider of fourteen to number one horse in Korea by winning the Korean Derby. Otherwise modest figures of five wins from eleven races now pale into insignificance. Here’s the Derby victory.

2. Golding - With 14 wins from 27 races - including his first five, the American bred Golding has been a consistent performer at the track since its opening in late 2004. Here is Golding’s biggest recent win, a KRW 110Million G3.

3. Rainmaker - After winning the first leg of the 2008 Triple Crown by taking the KRA Cup Mile and with it the KRW 228Million first prize, Rainmaker went into the Korean Derby as hot favourite. He disappointed, however, the atrocious conditions that day may have played some part. Before the Derbym Rainmaker had never finished lower than second and has won three from seven. Here is his KRA Cup Mile victory.

4. Procyon - Turning four this year, Procyon has been stepping up in distance and up in handicap value, winning in his first outing over 2000 metres in March this year. Procyon has a race record of 8 wins from 13 outings - and taking into consideration his first two appearances ended badly, it is 8 from the last 11.

5. Sinjin Gangja - Yet to win in 2008 with three second placed finishes, Sinjin Gangja retains a record of 7 wins from 16 races all of those wins coming as a three year old in 2007.

6. Bugyeong Choegang - Racing once a month in 2008 so far, Bugyeong Choegang has won thee of those four outings taking his career record to 6 wins from 13 starts. The Australian-bred four year old took five attempts to make it into the winner’s enclosure but has finished first or second in every outing since.

    Hello,
    I’m Japanese horse racing fan.
Now I’m interested in Korean horse racing, and enjoy reading your blog.
By the way, I heard Korean horses will go on a tour to the U.S.A. this year.
Which horse do you know will go next year?
I’m looking forward to see Korean horses racing for Japan Cup Dirt in the near future.
    See you.

    Hi fpop
The KRA has been talking about doing that for a long time as part of their “internationalization” plan for Korean horse racing, placing horses in races across the world to check the level of domestic horses. I think they wanted to send three or four horses to the US but I don’t know if there’s been any progress. Japan would definitely seem to be a more logical first step.
